  • 🌱 Emergent for early explorers of letters and sounds

  • 🧠 Developing for growing readers and budding writers

  • 📚 Fluent for confident, independent learners

📚 Not Sure Where to Start?

Every child develops at their own pace — and that’s a good thing. If you’re unsure which level is the best fit, use the guide below as a starting point.

🌱 Early Literacy

Suggested age: 3–5 years old
Best for children who are exploring letters and sounds, love being read to, and are beginning to experiment with drawing, scribbling, or pretending to write.

🌿 Growing Literacy

Suggested age: 5–7 years old
Perfect for children who know most letters and sounds, are starting to read or write short words, and love to play with rhyme, sound, and meaning.

🌸 Confident Literacy

Suggested age: 7–9+ years old
Great for children who are reading sentences or books on their own, writing for fun or school, and beginning to express themselves clearly in writing.

Early vs. Growing Literacy Learners

A quick guide to help you choose the right Everyday Literacy level.

 Early Literacy

Your child is likely in the Early Literacy stage if they:

  • Know some letters or sounds, but not all

  • Enjoy listening to stories and exploring picture books

  • Can sing the ABCs, but may not match letters to sounds yet

  • Love drawing, scribbling, and pretend-writing

  • Are just beginning to play with rhymes or notice beginning sounds

  • Often ask for help with identifying letters or writing their name

✨ Start here if your child is still discovering how letters and sounds work, and enjoys literacy through play, drawing, or listening.

Growing Literacy

Your child may be in the Growing Literacy stage if they:

  • Recognize most or all letter names and many sounds

  • Can match letters to sounds (e.g., /s/ for sun)

  • Can read or sound out simple words (like cat, bed, dog)

  • Are starting to write words or short sentences on their own

  • Can produce rhyming words and count syllables

  • Are beginning to read short books or label their drawings with words

✨ Choose this level if your child is starting to read and write with support, and loves experimenting with words.
